New Players - MCTA Program Descriptions
Available MCTA-Sponsored League ProgramsUSTA Winter Mixed Doubles League: Players must be 19 years of age or older. Each team match consists of 3 doubles courts. Level leagues are organized by combined NTRP rating (e.g., a 4.0 player and a 3.0 player together in a 7.0 level league). Teams form in the November-December timeframe, although players may be added to existing teams throughout the local season. Local match play runs from January to mid-April, with local winners advancing to District, Section, and National championship tournament play.
USTA Winter Combo Doubles League: Players must be 19 years of age or older. Teams are gender-specific. Each team match consists of 3 doubles courts. Level leagues are organized by combined NTRP rating (e.g., a 4.0 player and a 3.5 player together in a 7.5 level league). Teams form in the November-December timeframe, although players may be added to existing teams throughout the local season. Local match play runs from January to mid-April, with local winners advancing to a District (Maryland State) championship tournament in the Fall.
Winter Ladies Day League: Players must be 19 years or age or older. This is a non-advancement daytime league for women with flexible schedules, allowing them to play matches between 10AM and 2PM. Each team match consists of 3 courts of doubles. Level leagues are organized by straight NTRP level (3.0, 3.5, 4.0, etc.). Teams form in the November-December timeframe, although players may be added to existing teams throughout the local season. Local match play runs from January through the end of March.
USTA Adult League: Players must be 19 years of age or older. Teams are gender-based and organized by straight NTRP levels. Each team match consists of 5 courts each (2 singles + 3 doubles courts) except for 2.5 and 5.0 levels, which play a smaller format (1 singles + 2 doubles courts). Teams form in the February-March timeframe, although players may be added to existing teams throughout the local season. Local match play runs from mid-April to mid-July, with local winners advancing to District, Section, and National championship tournament play.
USTA Super Senior League: Players must be 60 years of age or older. Gender-based teams organized by straight NTRP rating level. Each team match consists of 3 doubles courts. Teams form in the March-April timeframe, although players may be added to existing teams throughout the local season. Local match play runs from May-July. Matches are scheduled for both evenings and weekday daytimes, as the level leagues desire. Local winners advance to District and Section championship tournament play.
USTA Super Duper Senior League: Players must be 70 years of age or older. Gender-based teams organized by straight NTRP rating level. Each team match consists of 3 doubles courts. Teams form in the March-April timeframe, although players may be added to existing teams throughout the local season. Local match play runs from May-July and is scheduled outdoors in the mornings. Local winners advance to District and Section championship tournament play.
USTA Senior League: same as above for players 50 years of age or older. Each match consists of 3 doubles courts. Local season runs from mid-July to late August, followed by District, Section, and National championship play for winners.
USTA Senior Mixed Doubles League: same criteria as Senior League, but for Mixed Doubles play and organized by combined NTRP levels. Local season runs concurrently with Senior League. Winners advance to Sectional and National championship play.
USTA Super Senior Mixed Doubles League: same criteria as Super Senior League, but for Mixed Doubles play and organized by combined NTRP levels. Local season runs from mid-July to late-August, followed by Sectional championship play for winners.
Fall Mixed Doubles League: Players must be 19 years of age or older. Each team match consists of 3 doubles courts. Level leagues are organized by combined NTRP rating (e.g., a 4.0 player and a 3.0 player together in a 7.0 level league). Teams form in the August-September timeframe, although players may be added to existing teams throughout the local season. Local match play runs from mid-September to mid-December. No advancement beyond local play. Captains often use Fall season as “try-out” or “practice” season in preparation for Winter advancement leagues.
Fall Combo Doubles League: Players must be 19 years of age or older. Teams are gender-specific. Each team match consists of 3 doubles courts. Level leagues are organized by combined NTRP rating (e.g., a 4.0 player and a 3.0 player together in a 7.0 level league). Teams form in the August-September timeframe, although players may be added to existing teams throughout the local season. Local match play runs from mid-September to mid-December. No advancement beyond local play. Captains often use Fall season as “try-out” or “practice” season in preparation for Winter advancement leagues.
