JTT Parents
Parents and Players - Welcome to MCTA Junior Team Tennis! We hope that this is a fun and rewarding season for you.
We work hard behind the scenes to bring recreational competive tennis to more than 450 junior players over three seasons throughout Montgomery County and surrounding communities. However, we need help from each of you - both parents and players - to bring this about. Here's what you can do to play your part:
- Know the rules and procedures for MCTA/JTT. Each player should receive a Rules/Code of Conduct Card from your captain - bring these to each match and refer to them when ever an issue arises during a match.
- Good sportsmanship is expected at all times. Yelling, moping, sulking, cheating, taunting, gloating, thowing a racket, aggressive behavior is not allowed.
- Cheering is allowed as long as it is done for good points (not for errors or double faults).
- Arrive on time and ready to play - you have the courts for only 90 minutes. It is unfair to your opponents when players are late and the match is cut short. Late penalties may be assessd by the opposing team.
- There is absolutely no coaching at MCTA - none! Parents who coach risk being not be allowed to sit on the courts for future matches.
- In the 10-under division only, adults , preferably captains, may assist to faciltate matches only. Younger players need to learn from experience - help should come only if players do not know how to procede with a match; eg, how to play a tie break. (If there are no score tenders available, parents may give players pencil and paper to keep score during change overs but should not keep score for them).
- Issues that arise during a match between teams should be resolved by captains.
- Thank your captain often - they spend time and energy on your behalf.
Parents - remember, Junior Team Tennis is all about fun. There are no ranking points on the line, certainly no endorsements. Be supportive and positive at all times for your player's enjoyment and effort, not their results. When you register your son or daughter, you are agreeing to to model the good sporstmanship you wish to see in your son/daughter and to help him/her understand and follow MCTA/JTT rules and procedures.
Parents who serve as acting captains - thank you for supporting your team captain in this way. Things to take to the match with you: cell numbers of the players in that line-up, copy of the rules, score sheet, the cell # of the JTT Admin. (ask your captain) in case there is a problem at the facility.
