What is MCTEF?
The Montgomery County Tennis and Education Foundation (MCTEF) was created in 2006 and is affiliated with the Montgomery County Tennis Association (MCTA). MCTEF is dedicated to the long-term development of tennis and committed to providing healthful recreation and education to all Montgomery County youth. MCTEF works with MCTA and others to provide these opportunities in multicultural communities as a productive life path for all who wish to participate. MCTEF strives to provide these services at little or no cost to the participants.
MCTEF is dedicated to providing tennis, education, and mentoring opportunities to underserved segments of the Montgomery County, Maryland multicultural community. In this regard, it follows the model first articulated in 1968 by tennis legend Arthur Ashe. Tennis is used as the vehicle to teach honest competition, sportsmanship, self-discipline, non-violent conflict resolution skills and self-esteem. On-court instruction is supplemented by classroom sessions that reinforce basic skills achievement: developing a strong work ethic; managing mistakes and solving problems; accepting responsibility for one's actions; learning the value of teamwork.
The IRS has designated MCTEF as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. As a result, contributions to MCTEF are tax-deductible.
